Tour Plan

We’ll pick you up from Stirling train station at 8:00am (this is also where we’ll drop you off at the end of the tour). Here, we’ll introduce you to the tour and make sure you’re all set for your adventure to Glencoe.

The drive takes around 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours, including a couple of stops along the way. The van is fully air-conditioned, so you can sit back and enjoy the journey.

Our first stop is Kilmahog, where, if the shop is open, you’ll have the chance to personally feed the famous Highland Coos. We’ll then continue to Tyndrum for a short toilet break before heading on to Glencoe, where your adventure begins straight away.

Our first location is one of Glencoe's hidden gems, the Lochan and Mountain View Trails. There's also a third trail, but we'll save that for the last day.

The Lochan Trail is a relaxing walk with some amazing scenery. It's a short, mostly flat circular route around the lochan that takes around 45 minutes, making it suitable for almost everyone.

The Mountain View Trail can be completed before or after the Lochan Trail, as they both link together. It has a little more climbing, but the steeper sections only last for around five minutes. The trail is well maintained, safe, and takes around 30 minutes to complete.

We'll leave the third trail until later because we need to make our way to the Turf and Creel House, where you'll hear the fascinating history of the house, the surrounding lands, and the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692.

After exploring the house, we'll stop for lunch at the café on site.

The adventure doesn't end there. After lunch, we'll head up to Mast View Point at 414 metres. The views begin long before you reach the summit, as the winding path gradually climbs through the hillside, revealing more of Glencoe with every step. At the top, you'll be rewarded with stunning views across Glencoe and Loch Leven.

Once we're back down, we'll head to the van before making our way to the Clachaig Inn for a well-earned dinner. The inn is extremely popular and works on a first come, first served basis, so some favourite meals can sell out depending on how quickly the group completes the walk.

After dinner, you can enjoy a hot shower back at the campsite before relaxing around the campfire for the evening.

Good morning everyone!

Breakfast will be ready between 8:30am and 9:00am. If you fancy a last-minute wake-up call, just let me know. If you're awake before breakfast is ready, we can sort you a tea or coffee while you wait, or you can grab a shower first. It's completely up to you.

These last two days of your tour depend on the weather, so I might swap them around. Day one would have been a long day with plenty of travelling and adventure, so today we'll have a slightly later start, setting off at 10:00am.

Today you'll continue your journey through the history and stories from day one, with everything starting to fit together as the pieces of the puzzle fall into place.

You'll begin by tackling the Devil's Staircase to Kinlochleven, a walk that takes around 3 hours, including a well-earned tea break. As always, I carry my little stove and kettle, so we'll stop somewhere with a view for a proper brew.

The Devil's Staircase isn't nearly as bad as it sounds. The climb is only around 305 metres, but keeping your eyes off Buachaille Etive Mòr is the difficult part. Looking back over your shoulder every few minutes and stopping for photos means the walk usually takes a little longer than expected!

Once over the summit and making your way down towards Kinlochleven, I'll tell you another short story—more like another piece of the jigsaw—which links back to the history you learned on day one. The path winds through the hills, surrounded by endless green scenery, before we stop once again for tea or coffee.

When we reach Kinlochleven, you'll be picked up and taken back to Glencoe, where another hidden gem awaits. But first, it's probably time to enjoy your packed lunch.

Once lunch is over, we'll head into the gorge and make our way to the Hidden Valley. This hike does require a head for heights and plenty of attention!! The journey into the valley is full of magical moments that seem to leave a lasting stamp on your memory. Take your time exploring the valley and enjoy the peace and quiet away from everything. Just remember... there's no phone signal up there.

After that, it's time for dinner, and we're heading back to the Clachaig Inn. If today falls on a Saturday, you're in for a treat, as the Inn has live music in the evening. Stay for a couple of drinks and soak up the atmosphere before making the easy 10-minute walk back to camp. Or, if you prefer, relax around the campfire instead. A couple of toasted marshmallows, anyone?

Rise and shine! The same breakfast arrangements apply as the day before. Breakfast options include a full breakfast, cereal, fruit, yogurt, fresh orange juice, tea, and coffee.

Today is mountain day! You'll be heading up one of Scotland's famous Munros, Buachaille Etive Beag, not to be confused with its larger neighbour, Buachaille Etive Mòr. The climb begins with plenty of boulder stairs for much of the ascent, but every step is rewarded with breathtaking views that only get better the higher you go.

As with every day, we'll pack one of our day bags for you with a poncho, water, and, of course, your packed lunch. Near the summit we'll find a good spot to stop, catch our breath, and enjoy some lunch while taking in the incredible scenery. It's the perfect opportunity to recharge before making the final push to the summit.

Once at the top, take your time to soak it all in. There'll be plenty of time for photos, to admire the views, and perhaps even enjoy a well-earned cup of tea while standing high above Glencoe.

After descending the mountain, we'll make our way to the Meeting of the Three Waters, where you can cool off with a refreshing dip in Glencoe's natural rock pools. If you'd like to take a swim, don't forget to bring something to change into—it can be the perfect way to finish a mountain hike, especially on a warm day.

From there we'll visit Ralston Cairn, a historic cairn with its own fascinating story and one of the finest viewpoints overlooking the Three Sisters of Glencoe.

Before leaving Glencoe, we'll complete the final walk from day one by exploring the third trail at the Lochan and Mountain View Trails, ensuring you've experienced everything this beautiful area has to offer.

With our adventures complete, we'll begin the journey home, stopping in Tyndrum to enjoy a famous Real Food Cafe fish supper before continuing to Stirling train station.

There we'll say our goodbyes, leaving you with unforgettable memories of hiking through one of Scotland's most spectacular landscapes, hearing the stories that shaped Glencoe, and hopefully taking home a sense of peace and adventure that will stay with you long after the tour has ended.
